Friday Fun Facts!

John Green is an author who seems to be on a roll with his Best Selling novels. Currently the author of 5 books, and hopefully more to come! He has also written short stories and several anthropologies. “The Fault in Our Stars” seems to be dominating the movie theaters right now. Although I do enjoy movies based off books (Harry Potter, anyone?) I always prefer the books.

John grew up in Orlando, Florida,

John seems to be full of great quotes as well! Some of my favorites?
I don’t know a perfect person, I only know flawed people who are still worth loving.
I just want to do something that matters. Or be something that matters. I just want to matter.
You are so busy being you that you have no idea how utterly unprecedented you are.

What is your favorite John Green book? Did you see “The Fault in Our Stars” yet?

Another Abraham Lincoln Book I Need to Read! (Oooops)

Another Abraham Lincoln Book I Need to Read!

Boy did I goof. I know that Sarah Bush was Abe’s Step-Mother, and Nancy Hank was his birth mother. Hence, my post below is completely incorrect; although Abe did love his mother very much (and his step-mother) and I think I am going to read this book regardless. It is fairly small so although it smells like old books tend to, it should be a quick read. I apologize for my inaccurate information!

This book is about Mr. Lincoln and the relationship he had with his Step-Mother, whom he grew to love very dearly. He had a difficult time when his Mother passed away.

I had to “borrow” this. Even though I have a Nook, I will never give up my books! Actually, I use it to play crossword puzzles on, and get my magazines, so I can save a few trees.

Friday Fun Facts!

James Patterson…since I brought him up this week, I figured this would be a great Friday Fun Facts, since I love his writing, and really had no idea exactly how many books he has written.

Image

The number of books he has written? I could not find a definite answer, or even a fairly recent answer. He has numerous series, including “The Women’s Murder Club”, Alex Cross, Maximum Ride, Private, Daniel X, and Witch and Wizard. He has very recently started writing a series of books aimed at middle-school aged children, and my kids love these books.

He has also had 10 of his stories made into either movies, made-for-television movies, or television series.

Mr. Patterson has won numerous awards for his writing, and dominated the New York Times Bestsellers list more often than not, including setting a record for 76 hardcover fiction bestselling books by a single author.

He also often writes with other authors, including Maxine Paetro, Mark Sullivan, and Michael Ledwidge.

Like him or not (and I am so glad I do) this is a writer that I doubt will be retiring his ink pen, or typewriter, or laptop, or anything else he uses to write his stories.

Do you have a favorite series by James Patterson?

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln

I bought this book several years ago off Ebay, along with a smaller book about Abraham Lincoln and his Step-Mother. I really never had any intention of reading either, as I just purchased them to put with all the rest of my Abraham Lincoln things I have collected over the years.

With all the big names that contributed, I think I may indeed end up reading this!

Some New Books

Some New Books

I love Joanne Fluke’s stories, and have read most of the mystery series with recipes (great reads and funny too!). So I thought I would grab these 3 books the last time I was in B&N. The question now is, when will I be able to read these? Hopefully sooner, rather than later.

On My Bookshelf

James Patterson, anyone? I have so many of his books, I think they take up about 3 shelves right now. The thing I like best about his books is that the chapters are short. I don’t like stopping my reading in the middle of a chapter, and his books allow me to get a lot read with easy stopping points. I am not fond of books with really long chapters; I tend to feel like I cannot put it down until I get to the end of said chapter.

His books are also suspenseful, and full of twists that keep you guessing. I am going to look up and see how many books he actually has out, since it seems like he is putting out at least one book a month. Maybe my Friday Fun Facts subject for this week? Since I missed last Friday I need to make it a good one 🙂 With all that writing, I have still not come across a book that I felt like I have read before. Some authors seem to only change the names of people and cities, and the stories are all the same.

I think the two series I like the best are the “Women’s Murder Club”, and the “Private” stories. Do you have a favorite Patterson book?
