The Cuckoo’s Calling

Loved this book, cannot wait for the next in what is promising to be a great series

OK, so I have to be completely honest here; if I did not know J.K. Rowling penned this book, it might have taken me a year or two to find it. I only say that because I tend to read books by unknown author’s, and since it was getting great reviews under the penned name of Robert Galbraith, and being a mystery, I am fairly certain I would have picked it up at some point.

Knowing she wrote it, I ran and out got it and read it in about 4 days. I probably could have read it faster, but my employer is pretty adamant about me going to work on a daily basis, and my kids insist on being fed and entertained!

All joking aside, it was a truly great read, and I am looking forward to the 2nd Cormoram Strike novel which I understand is already in the works. I just wonder if she is going to keep up the guise of writing under Robert Galbraith or just put her name on it since the whole world knows it’s her.

For any of you readers of this book, what did you think? I almost felt as I was reading it that I may not have said “This is J.K. writing this” but with all of the references to places in London that seemed to be mentioned in the HP books, and the writing style itself, I know I would have said “This certainly feels like a J.K. book, someone borrowed her style!”

Under Construction!

I have been away, and feel terrible, but I have been busy reading, and writing, and am literally studying how to make my blog the best it can be. I have read a few books while I have been offline, and looking forward to finding a group that is interested in reading the “new releases” and anything else that interests us. I will pick up anything I see with more than 3 pages and read it, so I am looking for some ideas on books to read that I normally would not read. Unfortunately, I will pretty much read anything, so what ever you throw at me, I would be happy to hunt it down and read it. I have some books on my shelf that I have yet to crack open, and could spend my entire weekend in any store that has books to browse and buy. I want one person to tell me “Read this book!” so I can find it, read it, and discuss it. Do you have a book I should read?

Have you read John Green’s Latest?

Image
I have read 3 of John’s previous books, found them to be different but I enjoyed each of them for what they offered. I did not know about his new “The fault In Our Stars”. Is this on your must-read list? I am hoping to get it this weekend, I read a brief synopsis that it is about 2 teenagers that meet in a cancer support group. Without any spoilers, yet 🙂 Did you love it?

The Best Series I ever Read

I have to say. I have read thousands of books, and series. I have written to authors of books I liked, and received autographed books from those authors. The best series I ever read is Harry Potter. J.K Rowling has an imagination that no one has yet matched. From the first time I read the very quick Sorcerers Stone, until I stood in line for the last four books, it has been a delight. Who enjoyed the detail of Harry Potter, or did you not get into it?Harry Potter 002

The book I could not finish

Being an avid reader, I have only one time started a book that I could not finish. I have read books that were rather boring and long, but since I started them, I was determined to finish them. I am the type of person that needs to know how it ends, whether it interests me or not. Unfortunately, I attempted to read a book I had purchased for my oldest daughter. I believe she read it, but I could not get past two chapters. It was hard to read, confusing, and boring. Does it make it a bad book? No. It just wasn’t something that I could finish because it was difficult for me to read. The book is “Wicked, Witch and Curse”, by authors Nancy holder and Debbie Viguie. Has anyone read this book, and did you like it? I am curious if I would have liked it if I had given it more of my time. Wicked, book I couldn't read 001
