Still Working on the Store :-(

This last shirt, Feed Me, is really getting my goat… I threw one away this weekend; and again, these bottom letters will not stick to the shirt. The whole black flower background and wording is one piece of vinyl; and as you can see, I still have the transfer paper on the bottom…

Either way, I am making pillows of the “I Read Past My Bedtime”.

And tomorrow; I have two different stories to work on.

Happy Friday; I give you well wishes that you are more productive than me…

Crafting and Reading!

Well, mainly crafting; I don’t count all the Nancy Drew books I have been going through as heavy reading, as I can read one in a couple hours.

New Christmas ornaments are going into my store; slowly but surely. Yes: I said the naughty “C” word, and believe-you-me, I could wait about 11 1/2 more months for it to get here if it were up to me.

I will have some baby onesies (bookish-themed, of course), in the next couple of days, as well as personalized book boxes for anniversaries and other gift ideas.

If I had more patience with my Cricut machine, I would be a lot farther along than I am. Luckily, my 17 year old is awesome at weeding vinyl letters 😉  I am also working on some more book bags, with a variety of images available.

There is not much in it at the moment, but you can find my Etsy store here: Books and Opinions Etsy Store

What is keeping you from reading at the moment?

My Christmas Book Wish List!

Are there books you would love to have, but will not buy for yourself? Me too! Yes, believe it or not, there are some books I just cannot justify buying for myself…

There are 14 total Wizard of Oz books written by L. Frank Baum. I would love to have this hardcover set for my library. Would I read them? Doubtful, as I have read them all before. I think it would look fantastic on a shelf in my library.

Another is anything ever written about Abraham Lincoln. I believe most of you know my feelings about our 16th President … I own numerous books about President Lincoln, but there are so very, very many out there. Biographies, Fiction, Civil War books, and the list seems nearly endless. I can honestly say there is probably not a book currently in print that would have any information about Lincoln that I do not already know. So, there would be no sense in me buying them. I would still like to have them though! Below are some of my favorite pictures taken in Springfield, Illinois.

Finally, I would love to have the new Harry Potter illustrated novels that are being released. I absolutely love this series, but I would not ever spend that kind of money on these illustrated editions. Honestly, I am perfectly content with having my mixture of hardcover and paperback novels of the 7 books. I also have not read The Cursed Child, and wouldn’t unless if someone gave it to me as a gift. For me, Harry Potter ended after book 7, and I prefer to leave it that way.

What is on your Christmas wish list? It will be here before we know it!

Coming Soon; Your October Book Box!

So, I have had this idea bouncing around in my head for the last month or so, of starting a Subscription Box Business. Featuring, of course…books.

And I searched all of the available ones already out there, and there are a bunch! One to never be deterred, I kept the idea in the back of my mind, still bouncing around on a daily basis.

I researched custom boxes, personalized shipping tape, printed tissue paper, what to call this business, how to start a subscription box business, what platform to use, etc. etc. etc.

Trust me, the list goes on, and on.

Do I use my already licensed business name of Books and Opinions, which I have trademarked, paid for, and created a logo for? Probably not. Enter more licensing and trademark fees, creating a new website, and giving myself one more thing to manage.

I have reached out to various authors for buying bulk quantities of their books for a specific month (I have a theme going on here!), and the response has been fantastic!

It is nearly September; school starts again in a minute, my weekly church activities start back up at the same time, and my oldest daughter is getting married the first weekend of October. Never one to give up, here is what I am going to do…

…I love Autumn, Fall, Halloween, October, November, I think you get the idea. So I have to have a box for October. And I do!

I just bought some great mystery books, and mystery magazines (think Alfred Hitchcock and Ellery Queen!). Add some Autumn Spiced tea, gourmet cookies or chocolate, and a handmade gift or two, all in the Spirit of Spookiness! I am still “building” this box, so some more items may be tossed in!

So I have some questions. If you could be so kind as to complete the attached 8 question survey, I would greatly appreciate it! You can find the survey here: Subscription Box Survey

I would also love to hear about any subscription box success or horror stories you may have in the comments below!

Question for my Book Friends-Update With Drawing

So these wood book boxes showed up today, and I have a couple of options. Varnish, book cover pasted or painted on top and end, hand paint a book cover, or just add decals/stamping/artwork, etc.

These will be going in my store, they are about 7 inches long and I was really impressed with the quality of these.

What would you need this to be finished like in order to consider buying it? I have no idea on a price until supplies and labor are put in.

Looking forward to hearing your great ideas!

Update- for classic book covers, is a cover image and my drawing after. A quick drawing, it would be more precise when painted with straight lines where needed. Thoughts?

What I’m Doing Right Now!

Enjoying my 6 week break from college classes for my MBA!

Editing an awesome book by a new author and  cannot wait to share it with you!

Creating great gifts for book lovers for my store!

My blog page has had some issues; i.e., I paid $299.00 for a business blog only to not be able to use all of the options. WordPress was amazing as always, and we worked it out.

The downside? I cannot get rid of the link in my blog to my store which no longer works…and I need to create a new link.

So what I am making right now are book boxes. I am working with paper mache as I look for a good supplier of wood products.

I have keychains, book bags, and book ends.

And I am holding a raffle in the Fall with a book bag, a fun Halloween themed book, some hot cocoa or apple cider mix, and something that smells awesomely pumpkin! I will be giving away a few of these! I love to share, and we are almost to my favorite time of year!

Stay tuned!
